Schools, communities come together to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Month

Schools across Otoe County came together last week during Random Acts of Kindness Week to be kind to one another. From kindness tiles at S-D-A High School to readings and activities relating to kindness at Lourdes Central Catholic to special posters for the Nebraska City Public School buildings and valentines for students from the community, the week of Feb.

Syracuse Market LLC reaching 1-year milestone in March

Thanks to the investment and hard work of its staff, the Syracuse Market LLC continues to serve the grocery needs of the community of Syracuse from its location at 294 5th St. Syracuse Market LLC took over the grocery operation, previously Terry’s Family Foods, in March of 2022, and is led by the three member management team of Jason LaFollette, Travis LaFollette and Janis Taylor.

Roc Hopper represents Biehl’s biggest adventure

Eight months into a business that intended to start out as a small tasting room, Roc Hopper Brewing Company owners Ben and Katy Biehl are riding a wave, adapting to what has been a changing business, as they go. Original plans were to serve craft beer brewed in the back of the building. The Biehl’s vision began evolving as early as the renovation process when they decided to add a kitchen and put tables and chairs in the brewing area and continue through present.

Council approves loan for downtown hardware store, hears economic growth fund update Nebraska City will continue to have a hardware store at the corner of Central Avenue and 8th Street, thanks to new ownership and a loan from the city’s Economic Growth Fund.
