Council hears annual report on museum visitors
More people visited Nebraska City museums in 2022 than in 2021, according to the annual report of the Nebraska City Museum Association (NCMA). NCMA Director Dean Shissler provided a recap of visitor statistics for the Nebraska City City Council during the council’s Feb.
Lourdes girls’ fall in razor-thin home decision
A storybook of losses by razor-thin margins unfortunately added another chapter for the Lourdes girls’ basketball team on Friday night at home against Lincoln Lutheran as the Warriors nipped the Knights by one, 3736, in the Class C2-2 subdistrict final.

Have you heard that there are children at our public schools that act like cats? I heard that they meow in response to a question. I heard they lick their ‘paws’ in class and that bathroom accommodations have been made for them in the form of a litter box.
Otoe County Democrats host guest speaker
The Otoe County Democrats welcomed Jamison Wyatt as guest speaker at their February 15th meeting. Jamison has worked for the State of Nebraska since 2008 in various capacities and is currently a legislative staffer for Senator Anna Wishart.
Northeast CC president’s honor list
Northeast Community College in Norfolk has released the president’s honor list for both full and parttime students for the fall 2022 semester. Earning spots on the president’s honor list for fulltime students were Nebraska City residents Abbigail Balfour and Anna Heng.

THOMAS MICHAEL HISKETT
Thomas Michael Hiskett passed away on January 18, 2023 in Greeley Colorado. Tom was born on March 27, 1943 in Nebraska City, NE to Leo and Catherine (Adams) Hiskett, was the older brother to his twin Gerald L. and sister Mary R. (Hiskett) Groves. He graduated from Nebraska City High School class of 1961. He then joined the National Guard where he earned the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, before he was Honorably discharged in 1965. After his discharge, he worked at the American Meter Plant and the Nebraska City Fire/Rescue. Tom moved to Colorado in 1969 and began a career as a plumber with Allen Plumbing and Heating, where he earned the title of Journeyman Plumber. After several years, he owned and operated Hiskett Excavating and remained doing that until the 1990s. He then began driving tractor trailers. At first driving all over the country and, after several years, he drove locally. Tom enjoyed flying and was an accomplished private pilot. He was a member of the Elks, Eagles, and
