Health and Safety Training Institute Offering Region’s Only OSHA-Authorized, Bilingual Trainings for Businesses

Heartland Workers Center’s Health & Safety Training Institute (HSTI) offers the region’s only bilingual workplace safety training authorized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Additionally, HSTI is the only health and safety training program in the area that conducts the training sessions at the employers’ workplaces during employees’ working hours or at Heartland Workers Center’s training facility.

Lied Lodge donates to Christmas Wishes project

The Lied Lodge and Conference Center has donated 200 bottles of body lotion to Christmas Wishes Paying It Forward. Margaret Spiers, left, accepted the donation on Nov. 16 from Shannon Goodman, head of housekeeping at Lied Lodge and Conference Center. Spiers founded Christmas Wishes Paying It Forward in 2018 and has set a goal of providing Blessing Bags to 8 cancer patients and 40 nurses at CHI Health St. Mary’s this holiday season.

The Angel Tree Project

The Angel Tree Project, a Nebraska City initiative which distributes Christmas gifts to less fortunate families, is collecting gifts for the holiday season. To participate, take a new unwrapped to one of the following drop off locations: Little Teds, The Wheel, Bings, The Downtowner, Dinty Moore’s, West Central, and Pin High (at Table Creek Golf Course). Peru Theatre Company presents: Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom

Peru Theatre Company wraps up the Fall 2022 season with Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom by Jennifer Haley. The film is directed by a senior student, Austin Martin (Falls City). It features a cast of fifteen new and returning Peru Theatre Company members. Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom (or N3RD as we call it) is a dark comedy that is set in Suburbia, the world of an online horror video game. Relationships between parents and their children break down with increases in teens’ addiction to the game. As the rules of the game, reality, and virtual lines blur, we are compelled to question our own relationships and ask: “Who do I think you are?”

VFW Essay Contest winners announced

On the topic of “My Pledge to Our Veterans” for the 2022/23 Veterans of Foreign Wars National Essay Contest, the winners from Nebraska City Lourdes Junior High are Christopher J. Flores, eighth grade, third place; Brandon J. Schnitzer, seventh grade, second place; Lillian Ann Dorman, seventh grade, first place. The essay had to be between 300 and 400 words. Checks of appropriate amounts were awarded to each winner. Presenters from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2634 are Senior Vice Commander Roger L. Kopf, Quartermaster/Adjutant Gary Hobbie, and Auxiliary member Nancy Giles.

St. Mary’s Receives National Performance Leadership Award

As part of the National Rural Health Day celebration, CHI Health St Mary’s announced it had been recognized with a 2022 Performance Leadership Award For Quality. Compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, the Performance Leadership Awards honor top quartile performance (e.g., 75th percentile or above) among rural hospitals in quality, outcomes and patient perspective.
