Students receive fall research project stipends from UNL

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln has awarded stipends to 202 Husker undergraduates to participate in research with a faculty mentor this fall. Local students receiving stipends are Senior biological sciences major Renee Box of Nebraska City for “Seasonal Dynamics of Flight-Capable and Flightless Crickets and their Parasites in Western Nebraska: Coupling Coursework and Field Research at Cedar Point Biological Station to Advance Collaborative Research at UNL.”

Senior Center Menu

Blue Rivers Area Agency on Aging has released the senior lunch menu. The menu for the next week is as follows: Friday, Nov. 11: Center closed for Veterans Day. Monday, Nov. 14: Sloppy joe on bun, steak fries, pea salad, fruit.

NCTC Scarecrow Contest winners announced

At the conclusion of the Trail of Treats event in downtown Nebraska City on Monday, Oct. 31, Nebraska City Tourism and Commerce announced the winners of the seventh annual Scarecrow Contest. From left are DeAnn Michel, supervisor of the Nebraska City Grimm’s Garden location, which was one of the co-winners of the Judge’s Choice Award for “Chrys An(ne) the Mum”; Morton-James Public Library’s Library Clerk Chloe Hamilton and Youth Services Director Amanda Winkler accepting the second Judge’s Choice Award for “The Spirit of Mollie and John”; and Dr. Kyle Peter of Lifetime Vision Center, which won the People’s Choice Award with “Children of the Cornea.”

Weeds and Plants

Matthew 13:37-39 “He answered, ‘The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.’” My garden and spiritual life really has a hard time with weeds.
