Nebraska City native Col. Derek Thomson, center, held his retirement ceremony from the U.S. Army at the Nebraska City Veterans Memorial Building on Saturday, Nov. 12. Col. Thomson was commissioned a second lieutenant in the infantry in June 1995 upon his graduation from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. In his 27-year career, he was stationed in Washington, Alaska, Georgia, and North Carolina, and he was deployed to Iraq during Operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn in Iraq. During the ceremony, he received a Quilt of Valor from the Blue Star Mothers, Chapter No. 1 of Nebraska City. Fourteen local retailers are participating in Nebraska City Tourism & Commerce’s “Shop Nebraska City First” holiday shopping promotion for 2022. The promotion, which starts today and runs through Sunday, December 4, encourages shoppers to stay local when doing their holiday shopping.

Wilson “Bill” Sigerson, age 99 of Nebraska City died November 10, 2022 at the Ambassador Care Center in Nebraska City. Bill was born August 20, 1923 in Loup City to Wilson and Myrl (Bartlett) Sigerson, Sr.
