As many of you know, this harvest season has been a tough one for Third District farmers. Arid conditions across Nebraska contributed to an expedited harvest completion and severely diminished yields. Ongoing drought has taken its toll, and yields for crops such as corn, soybeans, sugar beets, and sorghum are expected to be down significantly from last year.

The Heart of America Athletic Conference recently announced their Heart North Division All-Conference Honors. Devin Adams (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) won Heart North Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row and Lou Varley won Co-Assistant Coach of the Year taking home some of the top accolades the conference has to offer.

Bethel Church hosted its annual Turkey Trot on Saturday, Nov 19. This year’s Turkey Trot had a frozen quality as runners enjoyed a race-time temperature of 23 degrees.
Nebraska City High School FCCLA will be hosting a soup dinner during the boys’ and girls’ JV and varsity basketball games on Friday, Dec. 2. Games start at 4 p.m. There is a free will donation and all proceeds are donated to the Otoe County Relay for Life.
