Hansen talks Guinness World Record, pumpkin growing at Grimm’s Gardens

After setting a Guinness World Record this year, Duane Hansen hopes to break a state record next year by growing the heaviest giant pumpkin in Nebraska history. The current record stands at about 1,492 pounds, according to Hansen, who talked about his pumpkins and his recent attempt to break the Guinness World Record for a ride in a pumpkin boat.

Nebraska City High School Athletic Booster Club inducts HOF Class of 2022

The NCHS Athletic Booster Club inducted eight members into the NCHS Athletic Hall of Fame (Class of 2022) during half time of the Pioneer football game on Friday, October 21. The following members were inducted into the Class of 2022 Hall of Fame: Jack Hobbie, Class of 1969 Athletic Highlights: High School: Jack was Nebraska City's first State wrestling champion.

First responders honored

Nebraska City High School continued its pregame tradition of firing up the football team and honored area first responders as part of it. The team has a tradition of motorcycle riders firing up their engines to welcome the Pioneer football players to the field. On Friday, Oct. 21, players were welcomed to the field with the sirens of first responders who were in turn honored for their unwavering support for the community. The first responders gathered for a photo during the pregame on Friday.

What about Liming Your Fields?

If you have the opportunity to soil sample crop fields, be sure to check your soil pH. If the soil recommendation indicates lime is suggested, it is something to consider before next year’s cropping season. Liming fields can be done anytime this winter or spring when soil conditions are favorable and sometimes can have a very positive impact on crop yields and nutrient availability of fertilizers to the subsequent crops.

Brownville Concert Series Introduces Steven Banks

The Brownville Concert Series is thrilled to have Saxophone soloist, Steven Banks! Recognized for his “glowing mahogany tone” (Seen and Heard International) and “breathtaking” (Classical Voice of NC) performances, Seven Banks is establishing himself as an important young artist on the saxophone. It’s sure to be one you won’t want to miss! He will be in concert on Sunday, November 13th at 2:00pm. With a program that will feature works by Saint-Saens, J. S. Bach and Rachmaninoff. We give special thanks to Mary & John Lauber for sponsoring the show. Steven Banks is offering to give a free Master Class in Saxophone 30 minutes after the show.
