Pioneers on the Move celebrate PTO success

Elementary students at Nebraska City Public Schools got to celebrate the successful conclusion of the fall Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) fund-raiser with “Pioneers on the Move” events that took place Thursday, Oct. 6, at Hayward and Friday, Oct. 7, at Northside. The Elementary PTO set a goal of raising $20,000 to help with educational resources in the schools. As this issue of the paper went to print, the total raised was $22,184, and donations were still being accepted.

Christmas Wishes Paying It Forward seeks sponsor for holiday gift bags

Christmas Wishes Paying It Forward is looking for individuals and businesses to donate the following items for this year’s holiday gift bags for cancer patients: lightweight fleece blankets, men’s and women’s socks, travel pillows, cosmetic bags, refillable water bottles, 2023 appointment calendars, adult coloring books and colored pencils, individually wrapped snacks (cookies, chips or crackers), $15 gift cards or gift certificates to local businesses, and hard candy.

Splitting the Blackjack

I ask a friend to teach me how to split firewood without cutting off any appendages, and so our family would have heat. So he told me the story of how he started splitting wood when he was eight, and the very first chunk of wood placed before him was a blackjack. It only took him an hour and a half to split, because a blackjack is an old piece of seasoned oak. Sometimes we think life is just supposed to be as hard and cruel as trying to break through a blackjack. At least it seems like it when we are battling strongholds, habits, or seasoned by one of those mean people that you might think God placed in your life to haunt you.

Bringing manufacturing back home

Over the past three years, we’ve dealt with shortages of many goods, from lumber to cars to toilet paper. Supply chain shortages have shown that the United States is overreliant on foreign suppliers. Instead of depending on China for medicine, Taiwan for computer chips, or Russia for fertilizer, we need to return the manufacturing of our products to America.
