Peru State hosts freshwater fun at Duck Creek

On Wednesday, Sept. 7, Peru State College held its annual kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, and outdoor education event at Duck Creek. This event was organized by: Dr. Frank Lynott, Dr. Darolyn Seay, Dr. Kelly Kingsley, Dr. Robert Ingram, Dr. Sara Westerlin, Nebraska Game and Parks, Student Activities, School of Education, Methods professors and college 101 professors. The Lincoln Paddle Company provided kayaking and paddle boards for the second year in a row.

NDA awards meat processing grants

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) has selected 64 meat processing facilities, including two in Otoe County, to receive grants designed to support the growth of meat processing in Nebraska. NDA awarded a total of $4,914,247.08 of grants in the first round of funding through the Independent Processor Assistance Program.

Fall turkey season offers great opportunity to get outdoors

Nebraska’s fall wild turkey season, which runs through Jan. 31, 2023, is a great opportunity to get outdoors, either on a solo hunt or with family and friends. Fall 2022 permits may be purchased over the counter, are unlimited in quantity, and are valid statewide. Youth permits for hunters ages 15 and under are $8. Fall hunters can buy up to two turkey permits. Qualifying landowners also are eligible for a reduced-price landowner permit.

Nebraska 4-H recognizes 52 Members of Excellence at state fair

Nebraska 4-H awarded fifty-two youth with the Members of Excellence distinction at the 2022 Nebraska State Fair. 4-H members earned the award for engaging in livestock-related learning experiences throughout the year in addition to caring for and exhibiting their 4-H livestock projects. Nebraska 4-H recognized Members of Excellence across all 4-H livestock project areas.
