Nebraska City Jaycees Summer Ball Awards

The Nebraska City Jaycees recently held their annual Summer Ball Awards at Steinhart Park. Participants in the tee ball league received pizza coupons and medals. Coach pitch participants received medals and coupons. The Coach Pitch top three teams of the season were First Place Tree Worx coached by Andy and Jessica Moyer and Logan Crunk, Second Place was Ambassador Health coached by Brett Schnitzer, Tyler and Kelly Julifs, and Third Place was Paper Tiger Shredding coached by Brent Travis. The Coach Pitch Tournament top three teams were Commercial State Bank coached by Tyler Avery in third place, Ambassador Health was second place, and Tree Worx placed first.

2022 Rotary Scholarship Winners

The Nebraska City Rotary Club presented five scholarships to graduating seniors at Lourdes Central Catholic and Nebraska City High School this year. William Funke, Lourdes Central Catholic, attending the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and studying business administration with a pre-law track in the future; Valerie Bennie, Nebraska City High School, attending Southeast Community College and studying business with a future plan of opening her own restaurant; Anna Kincaid, Lourdes Central Catholic, attending UNL and studying economics with a pre-law track in the future; Andrew Stukenholtz, Nebraska City High School, attending SCC and studying diesel truck technology; and Sofia Barrientos, Lourdes Central Catholic, attending UNL and studying human development and family science. The Nebraska City Rotary Club awarded five total scholarships this year. Each $2,000 scholarship is funded by the Richard P. and Laurine Kimmel Charitable Foundation in recognition of Richard Kimmel’s long association with the Nebraska City Rotary Club. The Nebraska City Community Foundation Fund’s scholarship committee chooses the recipients, and preference is given to students who will attend college in Nebraska.

Funhouse Mirrors

Romans 9:33 As it is written: "See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame." A restaurant I was eating at had a funhouse mirror that made me look like one of the creatures in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. When I sat down with my cheeseburger, all I could think of was, “Man, that mirror made me look chunky.” If I ask you how you see yourself, what would the answer be? Many are robbed of their peace, joy, and happiness, simply because they do not see themselves the way God does.

Biden’s open borders

Alarming data from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) reveal CBP encountered a record 239,416 individuals attempting to enter our country illegally at our southern border during the month of May – an increase of 32 percent over CBP encounters in May 2021 and a staggering 930 percent over 2020.
