Surely I’m not the only person in this world that still has unfulfilled goals in their lives, am I? Well, I guess I accomplished one last night I didn’t even realize was on my list! Legislative Update with Julie Slama: Memorial Day

As we observe Memorial Day each year, it’s imperative to reflect upon the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who have given their lives in service of our country. While some Americans see Memorial Day as a three-day weekend spent camping, barbecuing, and going outside, we all need to remember the importance of this holiday. Memorial Day is to honor and extend gratitude to the men and women who died serving our country.

Michael Phares

Michael “Mike” Phares, age 81 of Nebraska City died May 30, 2022 at Prestige Care in Nebraska City. Mike was born April 9, 1941 in Ames, IA, the son of Floyd and Jacqueline (Shockley) Phares. He married Marilyn Graham February 14, 1974 in Phoenix, AZ. He owned and operated Auto-Tech Company which designed special machines for manufacturing. Mike lived in several states before settling in Nebraska City two years ago. He loved traveling and was an accomplished artist using oils, pen, and photography. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; son, Jon (Annette); daughters, Terri (Mike) and Amy (Mick); grandchildren, Ciara and Dillon; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather and son, Scott.
