Iron chlorosis in trees

In traveling around southeast Nebraska I am seeing a number of trees in the area showing signs of iron chlorosis. This is the condition when the leaves of trees are more yellow than normal. In the environmental conditions southeast Nebraska has experienced in recent years, trees have been under a great deal of stress.

Ricky A Eloge

Ricky A. Eloge, age 71 of Nebraska City died at his home on May 11, 2022 following a battle with cancer. Ricky Allen Eloge was born on April 4, 1951 in Nebraska City, NE to Lester and Ruth (Bird) Eloge. Lester died when Rick was five. Rick was raised in Nebraska City by his mother and step-father Lowell Eslava.

Lois Clara Esser

Lois Clara Esser, age 64 of Dunbar died May 15, 2022 at her home. Lois was born August 30, 1957 in Hamburg, IA, the daughter of Lauren and Alice (Norstadt) Comstock. She graduated from Farragut High School in 1977 and worked at Pendletons and Cargill for many years prior to her retirement. Lois was very artistic and loved crafts and playing the piano. She had a strong love for birds and animals in general. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sandy Esser; sister, Ingrid; brothers, Howard, Arthur, and David. Lois is survived by her sister, Cathy (Roger) Fichter of Malvern, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

NDA announces 2022 Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute delegates

More than 200 high school juniors and seniors, sharing an interest in agriculture, will gather in Lincoln in July to develop leadership skills, explore career opportunities and learn more about the state’s number one industry. In its 51st year, the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute (NAYI) is the longest-running program of its kind in the nation. Sponsored in part by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA), NAYI will be held July 11-15, in Lincoln, on the University of Nebraska’s East Campus.
