One of the most rewarding aspects of serving Nebraska’s Third Congressional District is the opportunities I get to engage with young people interested in government service. This spring, I’ve welcomed students from Bayard, Oakland-Craig, Boone Central, Summerland, and Doniphan-Trumbull schools, as well as Peru State College, to our nation’s capital. Fielding students’ questions is always a pleasure, and I deeply appreciate their thoughtful feedback and ideas about the issues we are working on in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Nebraska Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) met for their annual State Leadership Conference April 3-5 in the Lincoln Haymarket area. More than 1,000 students and advisers from 89 Nebraska schools attended the conference to grow their leadership skills, celebrate their accomplishments from the past year, and prepare for their future careers.

Addressing the financial situation, future and sustainability of the district. Thanks to many meetings, the board of education making difficult decisions, and the staff making sacrifices, the financial situation of Nebraska City Public Schools has improved tremendously.

UNK Order of Omega inducts Addyson Little

Twenty-seven University of Nebraska at Kearney students, including Addyson Little of Nebraska City, have been selected as new members of Order of Omega, Eta Nu Chapter.They were honored Thursday, April 14, during the annual Fraternity and Sorority Life awards banquet. Order of Omega is a Greek honor society built on the pillars of scholarship, service and leadership. It recognizes juniors and seniors who have demonstrated high standards in these areas while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Only 5 percent of UNK fraternity and sorority members can receive this honor each year. Courtesy Photo

The second session of the 107th Legislature adjourned sine die April 20. Senators leaving the Legislature due to term limits are: Henderson Sen.

The Nebraska City Public Schools board of education met on Monday, April 11, and took the following actions: Approved the Class of 2022 graduates list from Nebraska City High School. Ninety-one seniors are expected to graduate on Sunday, May 8, at 1 p.m.; and Approved the building and maintenance projects and summer list plan that includes a total of 19 plans involving all four school buildings while school is not in session this summer.

Within three hours of bid closing, the Nebraska City Public Schools board of education awarded a bid for the replacement of the existing field turf on Pioneer Field at Nebraska City High School. The board awarded the bid of $481,750 to Sprinturf of Daniel Island, S.C.
