Nebraska City opened the 2022 boys’ soccer season by posting a 3-0 shut out over Crete on the Pioneer Field on Thursday, March 17. Andres Pro, a senior, scored the season’s first goal for the Pioneers on an assist by Giovani Lopez.
Distance runners Mason Houghton and Alex Rico shined for the Pioneers on Saturday with four medal finishes in season-opening indoor track action at Doane College in Crete. Houghton had a gold medal finish in the 3200 with a run of 10:51.70, and Rico was second place in that race with a time of 10:56.42.
A pair of three-run innings powered Elkhorn Mount Michael past the Pioneer baseball team, 9-2, in seasonopening action at Clemmy Holmes Field on Thursday, March 17. Mount Michael finished with nine runs on 14 hits with one error and Nebraska City had two runs on five hits with no errors.

Raelyn Welniak, originally from Dunbar and Nebraska City, Nebraska passed away in Mason City Iowa on March 19th, 2022 surrounded by all of her children.
