Silage for Beef Cattle Conference set March 17

Nebraska Extension, Lallemand Animal Nutrition and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach are hosting the fourth Silage for Beef Cattle Conference on March 17. This year the focus is on how to get the most out of small grain silages. Registration is free and producers have the option to either stream the conference online or attend in-person at the Eastern Nebraska Research and Extension Center in Ithaca, Neb.

Bill would pair Arbor Day with Election Day in even-numbered years

Nebraskans would celebrate Arbor Day on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of evennumbered years under a bill heard Feb. 24 by the Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. LB965, introduced by Lincoln Sen. Eliot Bostar, would move the state holiday to coincide with the statewide general election in even-numbered years. Arbor Day would remain on the last Friday in April in odd-numbered years.

Two arrested after Keith County pursuit

Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol, with assistance from the Keith County Sheriff ’s Office, have arrested two people following a pursuit in Keith County. At approximately 7:45 p.m. MT Thursday, Feb. 24, a trooper observed a Nissan Rogue driving with expired license plates on I-80 near Roscoe, at mile marker 133. The trooper attempted a traffic stop. The driver initially slowed down to pull over, but then accelerated and fled. The trooper initiated a pursuit.

CHI Health St. Mary’s named 2022 Top 100 Critical Access Hospital for second straight year

CHI Health St. Mary’s in Nebraska City, NE announced it has been recognized as a 2022 Top 100 Critical Access Hospital. Compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, this annual recognition program honors outstanding performance among the nation’s rural hospitals based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX.

Open Door Dinner

Nebraska City’s First Christian Church at 114 N 8th Street will host an Open Door Dinner on Tuesday, March 8, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Menu items include creamed chicken with biscuits, green beans, fruit cocktail and bar cookies. The meal is free and all are welcome.
