Friend of NCECBVI Award

Teresa Coonts (left), Nebraska Department of Education, was recently recognized with the "Friend of NCECBVI Award" for the support she has given to students who are blind or visually impaired statewide. The award was presented by Dr. Tanya Armstrong (right), NCECBVI Director of Programs. Coonts has announced her retirement from the NDE.

Missouri River Bridge reopened

Weather permitting, the Nebraska Department of Transportation planned to reopen the Missouri River Bridge at Nebraska City to normal four-lane, two-way traffic on March 7. Repair work on the joints and deck on the exterior and rehabilitation work on the interior that began during the 2021 construction season was scheduled to be completed on March 4.

County commissioners discuss ARPA fund spending plan

The Otoe County Board of Commissioners began discussing how the county should spend its American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds during the board's March 1 meeting. So far, about $300,000 has been spent on maintenance of the courthouse and other county buildings, said Second District Commissioner Rick Freshman, including the construction of a storage shed for the courthouse's snow removal equipment near the southeast corner of the courthouse property.

Open Door Dinner

Nebraska City’s First Christian Church at 114 N 8th Street will host an Open Door Dinner on Tuesday, March 8, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Menu items include creamed chicken with biscuits, green beans, fruit cocktail and bar cookies. The meal is free and all are welcome.
