Lourdes Central Catholic middle school students participated in the 2022 National History Day Virtual District Competition held at Peru State College last month. Winners of the district competition were announced on March 3 during a virtual awards ceremony.

The Morton-James Public Library celebrated this year's "One Book, One Community" program with a fun art history program from Youth Services Director Amanda Winkler on Saturday, March 5. After the presentation, attendees made art easel cookies. The library, located at 923 1st Corso, has resumed Saturday hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Nebraska City voters got their first opportunity to hear from the 2022 slate candidates for city and county offices during the March 9 Hot Topics. About 50 people packed the Kimmel Gallery at the Morton-James Public Library Wednesday morning to hear from candidates for Nebraska City city council positions, Nebraska City Public Schools board openings, and the Otoe County Board of Commissioners during an hour-long candidate forum.
The filing deadlines have passed for the 2022 primary elections in Otoe County, and the Otoe County Clerk's Office has released the names of candidates for Nebraska City city positions and Otoe County offices.
New technology now allows utility workers searching for natural gas lines to find the line within a foot of its actual location. Brad Kingery, geographic information systems mapping specialist for Nebraska City Utilities, discussed this new technology during his "Tracking and Traceability" presentation at the Nebraska City Rotary Club on March 9.
Pictured is a Wednesday, March 9, view of four-lane traffic on Highway 2 at the Missouri River bridge on Highway 2 at Nebraska City. The road was closed to all traffic in March of 2019 and again in early summer of that year due to flooding. After the water receded, work began to restore the road and make it more flood resistant. That work included the installation of six overflow structures, three in the east bound lanes and three more in the west bound lanes. Traffic during those projects operated at two lanes with head-to-head traffic. Following the conclusion of the work on the overflow structures in 2021, traffic remained in two lanes as work continued on the west bound lanes of the Missouri River bridge. The Lourdes Knights boys’ basketball team took Class D1 top seed North Platte St. Patrick’s all the way to the wire in a furious fourth quarter finish at the state tournament on Monday before falling 54-49. Beau Lee had a team high 17 points including eight in the fourth as Lourdes made a comeback from a deficit that stood near 20 in the second half.
