The Entire Cast and Crew

When you watch a medical drama on television the main characters are generally doctors, nurses, and patients. We rarely learn about the many extras in the background. In an actual hospital, patients are cared for by their doctors and nurses, along with a large supporting cast and crew. Many of these people on stage and behind the scenes rarely get their name in lights. I would like to introduce them now.

Appreciation

I think back to the “way things were” sometimes and sadly realize I didn’t fully appreciate the many things I thought would always be there. I learned to appreciate my small town bank even more when I was living in Lincoln.

Small Grain Conference set for March 1 at UNL

Practical Farmers of Iowa (PFI) and Nebraska Extension are teaming up for the 2022 Small Grain Conference. The conference will be held March 1st at the University of Nebraska innovative Campus Conference Center at 2021 Transformation Drive in Lincoln, NE. The small grains conference is FREE for PFI members and costs $40 for non-members. Registration is required to attend the event and includes continental breakfast and lunch. Please register by February 22. To register, complete the online form at https://practicalfarmers.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/practicalfarmers/eventRegistration.jsp?event=756& or call the PFI office at (515) 232-5661. After the Feb. 22 registration deadline, walk-in registration will be available the day of the event unless the venue is at capacity.

Blue Star Mothers Host Community Sewing Event

The Blue Star Mothers Chapter 1 of Nebraska City hosted its third Community Sew Day to make Quilts of Valor on Feb. 4 and 5 in Gage Hall of the First United Methodist Church, Nebraska City. Anyone who wanted to donate time, talent, fabric, funds, or food joined the Blue Star Mothers for a half-day event on Friday or a full-day event on Saturday sewing, trimming quilts, cutting and sewing quilt bindings, or designing quilt tops. Since 2017, the Blue Star Mothers Chapter 1 of Nebraska City has made and presented more than 100 quilts to local veterans.

4-H Volunteer Award nominations sought

Nebraska 4-H is now accepting nominations for a new awards program to recognize the outstanding contributions of 4-H volunteers across the state. The Nebraska 4-H Volunteer Recognition Awards honors adult and youth volunteers, as well as and multigenerational families, who have provided meaningful contributions to Nebraska 4-H.

Leasure medals for NCHS speech

The Nebraska City High School speech team had one medalist at the Omaha Skutt Catholic meet on Friday, Feb 4 as Jaden Leasure placed 5th place in humorous prose. Nebraska City was to compete at Auburn's invitational meet this coming weekend, and, after Auburn, NCHS will have two regular season meets remaining including the district contest that determines state qualifiers.
