SECC career fair set for Feb. 23

Nebraska City High School is alerting its junior and senior students about an opportunity to find out more about programming at Southeast Community College. The college is hosting a career fair on Feb. 23 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Nebraska City Learning Center, formerly the Pioneer Academy, at 1406 Central Ave.

NCFD Rescues Cats from House Fire

The Nebraska City Fire Department rescued six cats from a structure fire in the 700 block of North 8th Street on Wednesday, Feb. 2. A toaster was found to be the cause of the fire, which did an estimated $100,000 to the home's kitchen. Two of the cats required veterinary care after the fire, which was reported at about 12:35 p.m.

Legistlation balances ATV, UTV freedom and safety

South Dakota offers some of the best ATV and UTV tourism in the United States, thanks in part to their legal framework to balance safety and freedom of use. Nebraska could soon follow suit if my bill, LB 1110, passes. On February 14th at 1:30 p.m., LB 1110 will have its public hearing in front of the Transportation and Telecommunications Committee. This bill would clarify our laws on ATVs and UTVs with a regulatory framework like South Dakota’s.

Last week, I participated in a House Ways and Means Committee hearing on the mental health crisis in the United States. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly one in five American adults live with some form of mental illness.
