Mother Nature can be harsh on a lawn, and it's up to homeowners to nurse their lawns back to health after they endure the elements. That's often the case when winter ends and homeowners uncover signs of damage to their lawns.
Lourdes scored 33 points in the first half and never looked back on the way to an easy 52-28 win at Brownell- Talbot on Tuesday, Feb. 8, in a bounce back game for the Knights after they fell to Pioneer Conference rival Falls City Sacred Heart in the league tourney finals on Saturday, Feb. 5.
Many kids are introduced to sports at an early age. Though young children may enjoy the recreational aspect of playing sports, a serious passion for a particular sport may develop as children reach high school. Such passions can be encouraged, as participating in sports can be highly beneficial for young people.
Dorothy Lucille Moyer was born on November 19, 1927, in Nebraska City, NE. Dorothy was the daughter of Earl Thompson and Goldie Lucille (Bird) Thompson. She passed on Wednesday, February 9th, 2022, at the age of 94 at the home of her daughter in New Braunfels, TX. Dorothy grew up in Nebraska City and spent most her life in the Nebraska City area.

Florezina “Flo” Encarnacao (Santos) Carver age 74 of Plattsmouth, NE. Passed away on February 8, 2022.
Most of this winter’s conditions have been abnormally warm and dry, and at times very windy. Lack of snow or rain is resulting in winter drought conditions for much of the state - for a look at current drought conditions, visit drought.unl.edu. In the Lincoln area, soil did not freeze until late December and only remained frozen for a few weeks, until approximately late January. In many areas, recent warm conditions have reduced or eliminated frozen soil.
The Lourdes high school speech team placed second at the Pioneer Conference meet. Bringing home medals were, Cora Krog, 3rd in Poetry; Xander Monson, 5th in Humorous Interpretation; Theresa Gygi, 2nd in Informative and 1st in Dramatic Interpretation; Reed Greger, 1st in Poetry & 1st in Humorous Interpretation; Theresa Gygi and Reed Greger, 2nd in Duet; and Hayden Beccard and Emma Misner, 1st in Duet. Great Western Bank recently donated $5,000 to EDGE Nebraska City's Book Besties program, which provides guest readers in Nebraska City elementary classrooms monthly and also provides books for students' at-home libraries.
