Lourdes Speech Team

The Lourdes speech team placed third overall on Saturday at the Ashland-Greenwood Speech Meet. Medal winners were Emma Misner, fourth in Extemporaneous; Theresa Gygi, fifth in Informative and fifth in Dramatic Interpretation; Trinity Salmons, sixth in Dramatic Interpretation and second in novice D.I., and Reed Greger, first in Poetry and first in Humorous Interpretation.

Northeast CC academic honors

Abbigail Balfour of Nebraska City has been named to the president's list at Northeast Community College in Norfolk. To be named to the president’s honor list, students must earn a grade point average of 4.0 and be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours.

That’s because this year April 15 falls on a Sunday, and April 16 is Emancipation Day, when the District of Columbia celebrates Abraham Lincoln’s signing of the District of Columbia Compensated Emancipation Act, which freed more than 3,000 slaves in D.C.

NCCFF puts ‘One Book One Community’ in Nebraska City Schools this winter

Believing that reading together as a family promotes reading for a lifetime, the Nebraska City Community Foundation Fund (NCCFF) is once again pleased to fund “One Book One Community” in Nebraska City. Jaclyn Kreifels, coordinator of this annual reading event, announced the 2022 book is “Masterpiece”, a children’s novel written by Elise Broach and illustrated by Kelly Murphy. It won a 2008 Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year in Children’s Fiction, the 2009 E.B. White Read Aloud Award and a 2009 ALA Notable Children's Book award.
