Joel and Helen Lundak were honored with a commemorative tree planting at  Arbor Lodge State Historical Park on Saturday. The two were named Arbor Day Honorees for the many ways they serve their community. They were especially noted for their extensive work in helping beautify the park with numerous plantings, especially of flower beds.

A large crowd of the couple's family and friends gathered for the ceremony. Mayor Jack Hobbie commented that the outpouring of family and friends spoke to the couple's giving and kind nature.

Also expressing words of congratulations and praise were Park Superintendent Randy Fox, Nebraska City Tourism and Commerce representatives Rose Ralstin and Rebecca Turner, and Tammy Partsch, president of the Friends of Arbor Lodge, who said that the many things the couple does "under the radar that we don't even know about is what makes them perfect for this award."

The News-Press will follow up with a story in Tuesday's issue with more of the comments made and the ceremony and information about the tree the Lundaks chose to plant,
