Promotions for this year's AppleJack Festival at Nebraska City have gone high tech, said Victoria Osten of the AppleJack Committee.

AppleJack posters, print advertising and even T-shirts include a QR code, which is short for quick response barcode.Visitors with a smart phone running a QR application can scan the code to automatically load Nebraska City Tourism and Commerce's festival webpage.

Osten said the QR codes were a natural fit for the festival, which has the the theme  “We have an App (le) for That!”The QR code will take visitors to a page where they can find a schedule of events and links to attractions.

“Honestly, I’m no expert on how it all works. I just know it’s new and it’s hip,” Osten said.
The annual apple harvest festival is its 43rd year at Nebraska City.

Events include a marching band competition, classic car show, hayrack rides in orchards to pick your own apples, Arbor Day Farm experiences and AppleJam carnival.

This event is traditionally held the third weekend in September. It will be September 16, 17, & 18 in 2011.
