A Missouri woman planning to open a gift shop in Nebraska City this summer said her lease on a downtown building was pulled after the Nebraska City News-Press reported that she would be selling K2.

Pam Weber, who runs Scentsational Scents by Pam in Kansas City, Mo., said the building owner did not feel comfortable with her business after reading the newspaper story.

The article said Weber hoped  to be open at 104 S. 12th St. by Sept. 1.

Weber said she intended to sell perfume, candles, oil burners and incense, but responded to the newspaper’s question saying she would also carry K2.

K2, which has been available in the United States since the mid-1990s, is sold at a variety of locations including gas stations and the Internet.

It is purported to mimic the effects of marijuana and has been banned in several states, including Kansas. A ban in Missouri will take effect on August 28.
“I was planning to sell perfume, candles and incense, that is the main business. It was not all about K2,” Weber said Thursday.

The building, owned by Margie Gibbs, is currently home to a dentist office, lawyer and beauty salon.
