The Nebraska City School board introduced new middle school principal Craig Taylor on Monday.
Taylor, the son of two educators from Lexington, earned his teaching degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1999 and earned his master's degree in administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
His first teaching assignment was for fourth graders in Liberty, Mo.
He later taught science and social studies at the Elkhorn Ridge Middle School in Elkhorn. He was also activities director at Elkhorn.
Taylor, who was among 27 applicants to fill the post left vacant with the resignation of former principal Jenny Powell, has most recently taught sixth grade at G. Stanley Hall for Papillion-LaVista.
“He will be a nice addition to the middle school and a good fit with our administrative team,” Superintendent Jeff Edwards told the school board Monday.
Taylor said he is excited about starting the school year in his new principal's role.
“I've had a chance to meet some wonderful people who have been easy on me and are showing me the ropes. Everywhere I've gone there have been people extending a helping hand to make this transition as easy as possible,” he said.
He said he expects all of his contacts with students to be learning opportunities.
“It's all about growth and learning. A part of our job is to help students not make the same mistake twice,” he said.
