Otoe County’s keno lottery contributed its first $10,000 to the county coffers by the end of 2009.
Voters approved keno in November of 2008 and the first county-operated game started at The Clubhouse at Table Creek, 5633 I Rd., in April. Keno games were added later at The Avenue Grill, 610 Central Ave., and the Eagles Club, 600 First Corso.
By Dec. 31, the county’s keno lottery fund had grown to $10,251.
In November, game contributions were $3,440 from the Eagles Club, $979 from the Avenue Grill and $5,019 from Table Creek.
The highest game payout in a single day in November for the Eagles Club was $621 on Nov. 24. At Table Creek, $1,142 in prizes were paid out on Nov. 19. The Avenue Grill paid out $341 on Nov. 6.
Nebraska City has collected $418 in September, $394 in October and $319 in November.
The $10,000 collected by the county after eight months of gaming, is below estimates discussed by the county board prior to the contract approval with AGT.
John Hassett of AGT told commissioners in January of 2009 that the county could collect $53,300 a year.
The county maintains a separate keno lottery fund and has had no spending from the fund. The city applies its keno revenue to the general fund.
The county receives up to 10 percent of keno proceeds, with 5 percent going to the Nebraska City’s general fund for games played in the city limits.
The game operator, Advanced Gaming Technology, receives 14 percent and 74 percent goes to players as prizes.
