Nebraska City, Neb. -

The Nebraska State Patrol arrested 49-year-old John Suppes of Nebraska City Thursday after a hit-and-run accident near Waverly.

The driver of a Jeep Cherokee told state troopers her vehicle had been struck from behind by a red, two-door sports car while she was stopped near highways 6 and 31.

About 15 minutes later, troopers located a 1998 red Honda that had been abandoned at the Waverly interchange near Interstate 80. A wallet and empty beer can were found inside.

A short time later a trooper spotted a man walking along Highway 6 toward Waverly. The trooper made contact with the man whose information matched the identification found in the vehicle.

The state patrol reports that Suppes initially indicated he had been car-jacked, but the keys to the vehicle were found in his front shirt pocket.

Suppes was jailed in Sarpy County for suspicion of driving while intoxicated, false reporting and leaving the scene of an accident.
