Otoe County sheriff’s deputies are hoping to interview a Tennessee couple arrested in Lincoln Wednesday in connection with a dime scam in Palmyra.

The sheriff’s office was called to the Casey’s General Store on June 15 to investigate a theft. An individual  purchased $30 worth of gas with what appeared to be rolls of dimes and cashed in some alleged dime rolls for bills.

After the customer left the store, the clerk realized there were only dimes on the outside of the rolls. The other coins were pennies.

Otoe County officials and the store contacted Lincoln police. An alert about the scam was also released to Lincoln media.

Lincoln police report  the couple used the “coin caper” to purchase tacos and lottery tickets at  four Lincoln locations on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, police say, the couple returned to one of the victimized businesses from the day before. The manager at the U-Stop on northwest 12th Street recognized them and called police.

Christopher Ar’rahmann, 38, was arrested for suspicion of theft by deception. Jennifer Lewis, 44, was arrested for suspicion of accessory to theft.

Ar’rahmann was still at the counter when police arrived and Lewis was in the vehicle, where roll paper and pennies were found.

Police say the couple reported that they were traveling through Nebraska on their way from Tennessee to Seattle and ran short of cash.
