Honors keep pouring in for Nebraska City ace pitcher Logan Ehlers, who helped lead the Nebraska City baseball team to the Class B state tournament this spring.

Ehlers recently received distinction on the all state baseball list released by Nebraska’s metropolitan daily newspapers.

Gatorade and ESPN have now added their honor to Ehlers’ list of accolades.

The Gatorade Company, in partnership with ESPN Rise, recently announced Ehlers as the 2009 Gatorade Nebraska Baseball Player of the Year.

Ehlers is the first Gatorade Nebraska Baseball Player of the Year to be chosen from Nebraska City High School.

Ehlers is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year award, which will be announced later in June.

Ehlers maintains a 3.33 GPA in the classroom and posted a microscopic .20 ERA this season.

He struck out 161 batters and walked just 16 in 68-plus innings of work.

Ehlers’ won-lost record was perfect at 10-0 with three saves.

Ehlers hit .329 at the plate with 22 RBI, 19 runs scored and eight doubles.

The Gatorade Nebraska Baseball press release also noted academic achievements by Ehlers.

He is a participant in the Leadership Nebraska empowerment initiative, a member of the Awana Clubs International Chapter and Varsity Club. Ehlers was noted for his volunteer work on behalf of a local crisis intervention organization for victims of domestic violence. He was also noted for his work as a youth baseball and wrestling instructor.

Possibly the most impressive note on the release might have been the quote from an opposing coach, who had nothing but good things to say about the Nebraska City hurler.

“He’s as good a pitcher as there was in Nebraska high school this year,” Elkhorn Coach Jerry Frerichs said. “He’s everything he’s written up to be. He has outstanding control.

“He’s hardly ever behind hitters. His fastball is in the mid-to-upper 80s and he has a sharp breaking pitch.

“Either one is enough to get you out,” Frerichs said. Ehlers will begin his senior year of high school this fall.

Omaha World-Herald

Logan Ehlers was named to the first-team all Nebraska and first team Class B lists by the World Herald.

Receiving Class B honorable mention honors for Nebraska City were Travis Peterson, Greg Denniston, Garrett Anthens, and Kevin Rademacher.

Lincoln Journal-Star

Logan Ehlers made the Super State first team list by the Journal-Star for the second straight year.

Ehlers is also an honorary captain for the first team super state.

Ehlers was also first team all state for Class B and an honorary captain.

Greg Denniston was named to the Class B honorable mention list.
