Get stronger. Get faster. Get to know each other. That’s the to-do-list for the Hamburg and Farragut football players this year as the two schools combine their football programs.
Senior-to-be Joel DeLong said there isn’t much anxiety among the Hamburg players regarding the sharing concept.
“A lot of us really don’t have a problem with it,” DeLong said. “If you are all part of a team you eventually start to feel like a family.”
The players on the football team will likely get the chance to compete together in track and baseball and DeLong said that will help the team bond for this fall. In addition, DeLong said a football camp date for the summer has already been set.
And there are already expectations.
“We feel like we have a pretty good chance to be one of the top teams in the conference this year,” DeLong said.
As for the open coaching position, DeLong said he wouldn’t mind seeing Hamburg’s former coach, Luke Stockstell, getting a shot.
“He’s a good guy. We all got along with him pretty well,” Stockstell said. “He seems like a pretty good man for the job.”
