James Kearney and Chloe Schaulis placed in the top 15 during district action and are headed to state for the second year in a row on Thursday, October 11, at Omaha Skutt.

Kearney led the boys with an 8th place medal and a time of 17:36.
“Great effort in a quality field of runners,” Coach Ron Schaulis said.  “He is a much improved runner from last year, as he has physically gotten stronger.”

Jack Vlahos ran his best race of the season with a time of 20:37; Jesse Rodriguez, 20:40.  Coach Schaulis said to look for Jesse to make a big jump next year.

Andres Pro finished with a time of 21:04 in his first season as a cross country runner.  Freshman Hayden Schalk ended the day with a time of 21:04.  Schalk had a nice performance for a young runner.   Oscar Flores crossed the finish for the last time as Pioneer with a time of 22:10.  “We will miss him,” Schaulis said.  “He made much improvements since the start of season.”

Girls results:
Chloe Schaulis led the way for the lady pioneers as she came away with a 15th place medal, to advance for the state meet with a time of 22:20, in a outstanding field of runners. “Another great season for her as she will be returning to the state meet at Kearney next Friday,” Coach Schaulis said.  “Chloe and James have also become our team leaders through their hard work and dedication.”

Brianna Fulton had another nice season, while fighting through pain to finish with a time of 24:56.  Look for big things from her next year Schaulis noted.

Vivian Gay finished with a time of 25:35.  Gay had a very nice season as a freshman and look for her to be a key part of the Pioneer team next year. Bayley Allgood crossed with a time of 26:19.  Schaulis said Allgood is a competitor and a big contributor to the team.

Althea Gay crossed in 27:25. Althea is another first year runner that made big strides from the start of the season.  Lilly Frields finished with a time of 28:22.  “Lilly was probably our most improved runner this season as she made the varsity team these last few weeks,” said Schaulis.

The future looks bright for the Pioneers, as they have most of their runners coming back in 2019, and, most of them are just freshman and sophomores.
