James Kearney came away with a first place finish at Twins River State Park in Valley, NE during Cross Country action on Thursday, August 30.
Kearney ended his day with a time of 17:38.
“It was his first victory in his career,” Coach Ron Schaulis said. “He ran a great race from start to finish, as he increased his lead throughout the race.”
Overall, the girls placed fourth, as Chloe Schaulis made her first appearance this season, and placed sixth in a stacked field of returning state qualifiers. Chloe finished with a time of 23:41.

JV girls won the team race: Karlie Olsen, third place, 29:13; Lilly Frields, fourth, 29:24; Katherine Luther, fifth, 29:31; Aspen Thurman, ninth, 32:17; Mya Bartman, 33:41.
Varsity boys results: Jesse Rodriguez, 21:45; Jack Vlahos, 22:24; Hayden Schalk, 22:26; Oscar Flores, 22:35; Andreas Pro, 22:46; JV boys: Christian Tietz, 22:57; Jared Robles, 27:32; William Ramage, 27:49; Jesus Flores, 28:41.
Coach Schaulis said it was a nice team effort on a very humid day.
The Middle school boys won the team title.
Alex Rico, boys champion, 5:54; Ethan Graves, 12th place, 6:24; Marcus Bartman, 7:05, Mason Anderson, 7:20.
The Middle school girls were lead by; Elizabeth Luther, fifth place, 6:36 and Malayna Madsen, eighth place, 6:49.
