The Lourdes Knights football team got off to quick start to the 2018 season when Andrew Aldana scored on the second play of the game with a 63 yard touchdown run, but the Falls City Sacred Heart Irish came out on top with a 60 to 28 victory on Friday, August 24, at Falls City.

After the Aldana touchdown, the Irish scored on the kick off with a 70 yard return.


Lourdes defense forced Falls City to punt and the ball went out of bounds on the Knights one yard line.  After a Knights fumble, the Irish took over on the Lourdes eight yard line and running back Jake Hoy scored on a one yard run, and the Irish lead 16-6 after a successful two-point conversion.


Still in the first quarter, the Knights suffered a difficult loss, when Thomas Carpenter made a nice six yard run, but in the process broke his leg.


Down 30 to 6 in the second quarter and on fourth down, Colter Fulton rolled out and found Harrison Benedict for a 12 yard touchdown pass with 11:10 on the clock. (conversion failed).


Both teams scored within the last minute of the first half.  Drew Bippes found Jack Fiegener through the air for a touchdown, and the Irish lead 46-12 with :44 left to play in the second quarter.  The Knights got the ball back with :40 seconds left and Andrew Aldana broke a 60 yard run after breaking a couple tackles and broke free for the score and Lourdes were down 46-20 at halftime.


In the third quarter and the Knights trailing, Aidan Aldana ran a 69 yard touchdown, but that’s all the Knights would score as they lost 60-28 in the season opener.


Passing: Fulton; 118 yards, one touchdown.


Rushing: Andrew Aldana, 13 carries, 143 yards, two touchdowns; Aidan Aldana, three carries, 73 yards, one touchdown.


Rec: Aidan Aldana, five catches, 116 yards; Benedict, one catch, 16 yards, one touchdown.


The Knights will be home to face Tri County on Friday, August 31.  Game time: 7 pm.
