The Nebraska City High School Athletic Booster Club hosted a community pep rally for the fall sports teams on Friday night at the Pioneer Field.
After tailgating games and a pizza dinner, fans were treated to talks from all the sports coaches and music from the Pioneer band. During the pep rally, all the fall athletes, the cheerleaders and the band members were acknowledged for their hard work and athletes spoke about their hopes for a successful season.
One Nebraska City fall sports team, the softball squad, kicked off its season on Thursday with a dominating JV and varsity sweep of the Falls City Tigers in a road doubleheader. The softball team was scheduled to return to action on Saturday for a tournament at Milford.
The pep rally concluded with a scrimmage effort by the Nebraska City football team, which will open the season with a game at Schuyler at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24.
