Trent Fahey blasted a three-run HR in the top of the third inning, as Nebraska City Post 8 Seniors downed Auburn 5-3 on Wednesday, June 27, at Auburn.

The last time these two teams met was on May 24, at Auburn, where NC lost 4-3.


With the game scoreless in the top of the third inning, Dylan Knoell and Garrett Bassinger both drew walks.  Trent Fahey came to the plate and crushed a home run to left field to give the Seniors a 3-0 advantage.


Auburn bounced back in the bottom of the third and got two runs, on one hit, to get the score within one run.


Nebraska City increased it’s lead in the next inning when Clay Stovall singled to score Tyler Levy and Bassinger drove in a run on a single up the middle to give NC some breathing room, as the score was 5-2 in favor of NC.


After a Bailey Darnell walk in the fifth, Zach Dickerson hit a triple to center field  and Auburn trailed 5-3.


Ethan Seyler came in the game for relief efforts and threw the next two innings and allowed two hits, no runs, and one strikeout as he earned the save and NC won it’s first round game of the SENBC Tournament, 5-3.


In his last two appearances, Bassinger has a total of 20 strikeouts.
Bassinger recorded 10 strikeouts in this contest in 4.2 innings of work and surrendered two hits and three runs to get the win for Nebraska City.

Nebraska City is now 10-9 on the season and will face Syracuse on Friday, June 29, at Auburn starting at 8 pm.
