Taylor Moyer was 3-for-3 with two singles and triple as the Nebraska City 16s softball team sent Conestoga home with a 5-4 win on Thursday, June 21, at the Nebraska City Softball Complex.

The Cougars took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but NC turned up the offensive pressure in the bottom half of the third.  After Selena Balquier walked to lead off the inning, NC got back to back line drive singles from Moyer and Abby Balfour.  With the bases loaded and no outs, Patricia Trice nailed a two RBI double to center field.  Sydney Schmitz came to plate and hit a ground ball sacrifice to second base that scored Balfour, as NC took back the lead 3-1.

With the score 3-2 in the top half of the fifth, and two outs, Conestoga was threatening to tie the game when catcher Taylor Nicolay threw out a Conestoga runner trying to steal third.

Moyer lead off the bottom of the fifth with a triple to left field.  Trice picked up her third RBI of the game by smacking a single and NC expanded it’s lead 4-2.  Later in the inning,  Balfour found herself at third and with heads up base running scored on a wild throw.

Conestoga scored a couple more runs in the sixth, and with two outs, the Cougars grounded out to Balfour at second base to end the game.

Pitching:  Balfour picked up the win for NC by surrendering two runs in four innings of work.  Schmitz earned the save by throwing two innings and allowed two runs.

Hitting: Trice, double, single, three RBI; Balfour, single; Elizabeth Hodges, single; Ramsee Henderson, single.
RBI: Trice, three; Schmitz, one.
