Garrett Bassinger earned his first win on the mound this season by striking out 10 Blair batters in 5.2 innings of work during the Nebraska City Post 8 Seniors 6-1 win on Tuesday, June 19 at Blair.
Bassinger has battled this season with finding the strike zone and getting outs. There is no doubt that NC needs a talented athlete like Garrett to step up and take care of business like he did against Blair.
After a couple of singles in the bottom half of the first, Blair took a 1-0 lead.
In the second inning, Bassinger got some offensive help when Trent Fahey led off with a double. Fahey later scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 1-1.
During the top of the fifth inning and Dylan Knoell at second, Bassinger hit a double to left field and NC found themselves up by one run. Fahey came to the plate a ripped his second double on the evening and later scored on a Jace Becker single.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Bassinger got the first two batters out. Ethan Seyler came in the game for relief efforts and finished out the game as NC picked up win No. 7.
Bassinger earned the win for the Post 8 Seniors by throwing 5.2 innings and allowing one run on three hits. Seyler surrendered one hit and no runs.
Fahey was 2-for-2 with two doubles, two walks, and scored twice.
