The Nebraska City Post 8 Legion played it’s first game of the season against Springfield where NC lost 13-5, as seven errors haunted NC on Monday, May, 22 at Springfield.

Nebraska City out hit Springfield 12 to 5 at the plate, but seven errors and 14 total walks hurt NC.

In the first inning, Garrett Bassinger hit a two run HR to right field.  Ethan Seyler scored Bryce Levy on a line drive single to give NC a 3-0 first inning lead.

Nebraska City was down 4-3 when Alex Breazile hit a single that scored Max Chaney in the top half of the third.

Errors in the bottom of the fourth inning hurt NC as Springfield scored six runs on one hit to give Springfield a 10-4 lead.

With the bases loaded in the fifth inning Trent Fahey was hit by a pitch that allowed Riley Wehling to come home, but regrettably thats all the closer NC would get and eventually went on to lose this contest 13-5.

Hitting for NC: Dylan Knoell, two doubles; Seyler, two singles; Breazile, two singles; Bassinger, HR; Tyler Levy, Eli Southard, Jacob Shannon, Jace Becker, and Max Chaney each added a single.

Bassinger started on the mound for NC.  Bassinger tossed 3.1 innings, one hit, eight walks, eight strikeouts, and six earned runs; Shannon, one inning, two hits, four walks, one strikeout, two earned runs; Tyler Levy, .2 innings pitched, two hits, two walks, one strikeout, one earned run.

A pitching duel broke out in this game as Eli Southard threw five innings, allowed three hits, seven strikeouts, and one earned run in an extra inning thriller.

Nebraska City took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning, when Jacob Shannon hit a RBI single to right field to score Max Chaney.

Zac Albrecht grounded out to first base side, but in the process, was able to get Braydon Betts across home plate for the RBI in the top half of the fourth.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Springfield was able to tie the game to send this contest into extra innings.

In the bottom of the eighth and a runner at third, Springfield scored on a passed ball that gave them the 3-2 win.

Hitting: Chaney, two singles; Southard, double; Riley Wehling, Braydon Betts Clay Stovall, and Jacob Shannon, one single each.

Pitching: Southard, five innings, three hits, four walks, seven strikeouts, and one earned run.  Chaney; 2.2 innings, two hits, three strikeouts, three walks, one earned run.

RBI: Albrecht and Shannon each had one.
