In the first round of sub districts, the Pioneer boys soccer team downed Plattsmouth 1-0 as Alex Ortiz scored on an assist by Langston Hoover on Monday, April, 30 at Waverly.

Wind gust reached anywhere from 40 to 50 mph on Monday.

“It was a blustery one,” Coach Jessica Rice said.  “Wind like that can make a soccer game difficult, you kick the ball forward and that thing makes an unexpected turn and you’re not sure where it’s headed.”

The Pioneers scored early in the first half when Ortiz made a nice left footed shot past the keeper on an assist by Hoover.

“We had several more shots and opportunities to score we just couldn’t quite finish,” Rice said.  “No other goals for the rest of the 70 some minutes.  We were able to hold Plattsmouth scoreless with the wind in our faces, but have to increase our intensity and defensive play if we want to continue our state run.”

Coach Rice went on to say, she is proud of her team and hopes the teams hard work will pay off when they play Waverly (10-5) on Thursday, May, 3 at Waverly for the sub district championship.
