With nine minutes left in regulation and the Pioneer soccer team down 1-0, the Hoover brothers connected for the score to tie the game, as Nebraska City would win the shootout in overtime, 4-2, against Bennington on Thursday, April, 16 at Bennington.
At the end of the first half there was no score. Early in the second, Bennington would put the first point on the board on a long ball that just got by Dylan Hanika.
Late in the second half, Logan Hoover found Langston Hoover up top as Langston scored with nine minutes left in the second half to tie the game at 1-1.
In overtime, the Pioneers scored on four shootout attempts. Among those that scored were; Hector Gonzalez, Logan Hoover, Langston Hoover, and Jorge Loarca.
Coach Jessica Rice said it was a fun game and was happy how her team played in the second half.
“I was happy with our effort the second half,” Rice said. “ I was happy that we found success against a team we could compete with.”
Nebraska City is one game below .500 with four wins on the year and will face Elkhorn (7-1) on Monday, April, 16.
“Monday is going to be a very tough game for us,” Rice said. "I just want to play to our potential and play hard for 80 minutes.”
With three games left on the schedule, Rice noted that she wants to finish the season strong.
“Looking to finishing the season with intensity and determination, meanwhile playing consistent, and mentally tough,” Rice said.
Nebraska City will be home to host Elkhorn on Monday, April, 16 at 5 pm.
