        • Bobcat softball season had ups and downs May. 20, 2013
          As many fans look back on the 2012 Peru State softball season, they will remember it for being full of many ups and downs as the team was constantly searching for consistency. The season started out rough as they lost their first 11 games, most of which were close games. They were able to bounce back however, by finishing 15-15 over their last 30 games putting their final record at 15-26.

          The Big Ten office announced the conference schedule for the 2014 football season today, as approved by the Big Ten Directors of Athletics. The 2014 schedule will consist of eight games for each of the Big Ten's 14 teams, feature a new division alignment, include the conference debut of Maryland and Rutgers and culminate with the fourth annual Big Ten Football Championship Game.

          Beverly Hermann fell asleep Tuesday night watching the televised Louisville baseball game, but was searching for new Rutgers University gear by noon.She had become a devoted Louisville fan when her daughter, Julie Hermann, became assistant athletic director there and is now preparing to follow as her daughter leads Rutgers' athletic programs into the Big Ten conference.

          Track and Field teams from Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca, Lourdes and Nebraska City High School were in action at district track meets last week.

          Mother Nature has not been nice to all spring sport teams across the Midwest, whether it is collegiate, high school, or middle school teams. Bad weather this past weekend forced the cancellation of the remainder of the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) baseball tournament, thus ending hopes of the Peru State Bobcat baseball team of having a repeat national tournament performance.
          Ryan Grabowski was a standout for the Peru State baseball team this year.

          Nebraska City scored two runs on four hits and committed two errors in an 11-2 district tournament loss at Wahoo on Monday.

          Having to wait two days to play their first game in the post-season proved not to be a good thing for the Peru State Bobcat softball. Mother Nature forced the delay due to rain and cool temperatures, only to see the Bobcats fall to Evangel University 12-0 in five innings.

          The Nebraska City baseball team will competed in the Class B-4 district at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wahoo’s Sam Crawford ball field against the host team of the tourney and No. 1 seed, Wahoo/Raymond Central/Lincoln Lutheran.

          Shoot out goals by Kim Osovski, Halsey Volkmer and Payton Lee lifted the Nebraska City girls’ soccer team to a 1-0 win over Conestoga in district soccer action on Monday night at Pioneer Field.

          The Nebraska and Creighton baseball teams will be in action for the TD Ameritrade Classic tournament at Omaha today through Sunday.
        • Huskers fall in offensive battle Apr. 25, 2013
          Nebraska’s offense scored 10 runs on 15 hits Wednesday night at Hawks Field, but it wasn’t enough, as the Kansas State Wildcats escaped Lincoln with a 13-10 victory. The loss dropped the Huskers one game below .500 on the season, 19-20, while the Wildcats picked up a season sweep of the Huskers after winning the first two games of the three-game season series in Manhattan earlier this year.
          Kash Kalkowski was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
