Fire destroyed a vacant rural home near Talmage early Sunday morning.
Talmage firefighters were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. on report of a house on fire at 5368 Quail Rd.
Greg Conz, assistant Talmage fire chief, was first to arrive.
He said he could see an orange glow from the fire when he left Talmage five miles away. When he arrived, the five-bedroom house was fully involved in flames and the east wall had already collapsed.
Firefighters were relieved to learn that no one has been living in the house.
The house, built in 1915, is owned by David and Terrie Cashatt.
A northerly breeze kept flames from spreading to outbuildings, but five pine trees had to be cut down because flames from the house caught the tree tops on fire.
Conz said the state fire marshal’s office has been called to try and determine a cause of the fire.
