Lawrence ‘Nip’ Larson, 93, of Ashby, Minn., died Aug. 17, 2010 at the Barrett Care Center in Barrett, Minn. He was born Feb. 14, 1917 in Pelican Lake Township, rural Ashby, to L.C. and Clara (Kessel) Larson.
He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Elbow Lake, Minn. He attended school at District 7 in Pelican Lake Township and worked for area farmers.
He married Wubena Moerke on Aug. 10, 1940 at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Elbow Lake. The couple moved to Waterville, Minn., where he worked for a farmer for five years before returning to Pelican Lake Township. Nip farmed his land and drove a milk truck for Ashby Co-op Creamery for 27 years.
He enjoyed visiting and telling stories. He played the harmonica and enjoyed singing, fishing, hunting, playing horseshoes and feeding the birds, squirrels, rabbits and deer. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.
He is survived by wife Wubena of the Barrett Care Center; sons James Larson and wife Marilyn of Union, Richard and wife Sharon of Moorhead, Minn., Donald and wife Norma, David and wife Dianne and Doug and wife Bridget, all of Ashby; 10 grandchildren, including, with local ties, Beth Haupt and husband John of Nebraska City, Dan Larson and wife Susan of Houston, Texas, and Sue Larson and husband Bruce Grupe of Kearney; 18 great-grandchildren, including Amanda Haupt and fiance Jake Meier of Nebraska City, Anita Haupt and special friend Beau Fruechtenicht of Omaha, and Ian, Katie, and Sidney Larson of Houston; and brother Harold and wife Clara of Ashby.
He was preceded by sisters Florence, Edna, Dorothy and Lillian and brother Henry.
Services are Friday, Aug. 20, at 2 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Ashby. Glende-Nilson Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
