Lilah R. Hughes, age 75 of Nebraska City, passed away on Friday; February 5, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. She had moved to Ragan, Neb. in November of 2009 to live with her niece Rebecca when her health declined.
Lilah Rose (Brown) Hughes was born on April 22, 1934 at Gravette, Arkansas; the daughter of Wade and Julia Mina (Melton) Brown. She was one of six children in the family.
Lilah attended school and graduated from the Percival High School at Percival, Iowa with the class of 1951. She later attended business school in Omaha, Neb.
She was united in marriage to Lindon Lincoln Valentine Hughes in 1968. He preceded her in death on February 27, 1998. Lilah worked for many years for Dr. Brown at Brown’s Hospital in Nebraska City. She also worked at Methodist Hospital in Omaha as a Ward Clerk and at Richard Young Hospital in Omaha. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Nebraska City.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law Pauline Hughes of Omaha; her siblings: David Brown and wife Marian of Colorado, Lyle Brown and wife Audrey of Wyoming, Dale Brown and wife Sharon of Missouri, Lena Randel and husband Dwaine of Kansas; sister-in-law Dorothy Brown; five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; 19 nieces and nephews; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; other family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her step-son Linc Hughes, a brother Arnold Oakley Brown, and a great niece Vanessa Mejia.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Nebraska City with Rev. Jeff Kelley officiating. Graveside interment services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha.
Visitation is open after 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 at the mortuary with the family greeting friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
