Alan E. Holliway, 83, formerly of Nebraska City, died Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Live Oak Manor Assisted Care Facility in Sarasota, Fla. He was born on Aug. 25, 1925 in Nebraska City to Elmer W. and Clara (Viox) Holliway. 

He graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1942.  He then attended Peru State College prior to military service and subsequently received an accounting degree from the Nebraska Business College in Lincoln.  Alan joined the United States Army in 1943 and served his country as an artillery observer in Europe during World War II.

He was employed by Sinclair Oil Corp. and successor companies for 35 years.  He held various positions of responsibility in the audit department and was the manager of operating budgets at the corporate headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio, upon his retirement in 1983.  He returned to Nebraska City in 1986 until December 2008 when he moved to Sarasota.

He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nebraska City and the American Legion and Nebraska City Eagles.  He was also a life member of the National Institute of Internal Auditors.

He is survived by children William E. Holliway and wife Kathy of Sarasota, Randall K. Holliway and wife Brenda of Conyers, Ga., Michael A. Holliway and wife Marcia of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Sally A. Rumery of Fort Worth, Texas; 11 grandchildren and other family and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 19, at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.  Inurnment will be at the Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City with complete military services conducted by the Nebraska Army National Guard Funeral Honors Detail.
