Leo Francis Hafner, 85, of Nebraska City died at St. Mary’s Community Hospital in Nebraska City April 1, 2009. He was born Aug. 23, 1923 at Herndon, Kan., to Anthony and Mary (Versch) Hafner.

He is survived by daughters Terry Foster and her husband Dan of Union, Michelle Boyce and her husband Lloyd of Fairfield, and Karen Hickey and her husband Glen of Union; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; sister Maryetta Yoos of Denver; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded by brother  Kenneth Hafner and sister Winnie Korte.

He formerly lived in Union and Thurman, Iowa. He was a professional painter at Offut Air Force Base. He was a member of American Legion, V.F.W. and F.O.E. Aerie No. 968 in Nebraska City. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, at East Union Cemetery near Union with Rev. Lloyd Boyce officiating.

There is no visitation. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church in Nebraska City.
