Paul Eugene Painter, 86, of Nebraska City, died on Jan. 18, 2010, at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.  He was born in Nebraska City on Dec. 31, 1923, to Charles Franklin, Jr. and Minnie (Giittinger) Painter.

He graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1941.

While living in Nebraska City, he loved Central Avenue and did numerous jobs delivering the News-Press, the Omaha World Herald, shining shoes on main and making root beer floats at Brown’s Park.

He moved to Missouri, and, on March 13, 1943, he married Charlene Fancher. The couple shared 66 years together.

Paul started working for Burlington Northern Railroad in 1943. He and his family lived in Illinois and Iowa until he retired in 1983 as a depot agent and moved back to Nebraska City.

Paul was a member of the First Christian Church. He  loved God, country, family and his profession in the railroad.

He was preceded by his father on May 20, 1970 and mother on June 26, 1984.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Painter of Nebraska City; daughters Kay Jackson and husband Gordon A. of Yellville, Ark., and Vicke Ohrnell and husband Len of Kansas City, Mo.; three grandchildren: Brad Jackson of Little Rock, Ark., Ryan Jackson of Yellville, Ark., and Lindy Sheets of Gladstone, Mo.; sister Rosemary Sommer of Mt. Home, Ark.; other relatives and friends.

Viewing and visitation is Wednesday, Jan. 20, from 1-8 p.m. at Peterson Mortuary then on Thursday with the family greeting from 10 a.m. to service time at the church.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Nebraska City. Officiating will be the Rev. Norman Morriss. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.

Memorials are suggested to the future Hospice House in Nebraska City.

Service is entrusted to Peterson Mortuary in Nebraska City.
