Dr. George E. Ulbrick, 92, of Hooper died at the Hooper Care Center on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010 after several years of declining health.
He was born Feb. 11, 1918 on the family farm in southern Otoe County to Alfred W. and Wilhelmina (Neubauer) Ulbrick. He was a descendant of Peter Ulbrick, one of Nebraska’s early frontier settlers.
He graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1936. He received his bachelor’s degree from Nebraska State Teachers College at Kearney and his D.D.S. from the University of Nebraska School of Dentistry in 1948.
He served in the Navy during World War II and re-entered military service with the Air Force from 1955-57, being assigned to Kindley AFB, Bermuda and Offutt AFB in Omaha.
He married Dorothy H. Schole of Hooper in 1944. She preceded him in 2008.
Dr. Ulbrick practiced dentistry in Hooper then Fremont for more than 35 years, retiring in 1983. His greatest professional joy was providing dental care for children.
After retirement, he returned to his farming roots, devoting much time for the next 20 years breeding Angus cattle and Suffolk sheep on his farm south of Hooper, where he also promoted native grass pastures and conservation tree plantings.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper.
He is survived by his three children, Martha L. Gillette and husband Rhanor or Urbana, Ill., Mary Lou Hultgren and husband Lawrence of Virginia Beach, Va., and George W. Ulbrick and wife Elizabeth of Lawrence, Kan.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be announced at a later date.
