Forest W. “Bill” Schumacher, 80, of Marietta, Ohio, died Saturday, June 6, 2009 at The Arbors in Marietta. He was born Jan. 13, 1929 in Parkersburg, W.V., to Forest William and Mabel Rowley Schumacher.

He was a 1946 graduate of Parkersburg High School and attended Washington State Community College. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of Vietnam, retiring from the military in November of 1970 as a senior master sergeant. He served as NCOIC of the SAC Elite Guard. He had worked in Parker, S.D., as the county assessor and had held various other jobs in the military. He had been branch manager of W.T. Grants in Parkersburg and dispatcher for the Marietta City Police Department.

He was an active member of Twin Rivers Baptist Church, helping with Bible school and other activities.

He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Lauderman Steele Schumacher. They were married May 16, 2003. He is also survived by children and their spouses Charles and Kit Schumacher of Seward, Mary and Larry Larson of Lincoln, Robert and Tammy Schumacher of Nebraska City, Keith and Lei Schumacher of Lancaster, Calif., and Tanya Schumacher of Sioux Falls, S.D.; step-children Marcia and Rick McCullough of St. Marys W.V., Michelle and Darian Bookman of Cincinnati and Brian and Rhonda Steele of Little Hocking, Ohio; sisters Lucille Shriver of Lowell, Ohio, and Dorothy Rarden of Columbus, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren.

He was preceded by a grandson, Charles William Schumacher, Jr.; sister Louise Campbell; and brother Paul Edward Rowley.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 11 at the Twin Rivers Baptist Church in Marietta, Ohio, with Pastor Jeff Baumer officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Lowell, Ohio, with full military honors.
