Glenis Elaine (Behrens) Gornik passed away Sept. 22, 2018.
She was born on Jan. 29, 1942, to parents Glender and Anna “Maggie” (Boettcher) Behrens in Talmage.
Glenis graduated from Syracuse High School (Syracuse, NE) in 1959, before going on to get a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nebraska, and Master’s Degree in Education at Washington State University.
After graduation, Glenis began working at the Navigator’s Christian Organization in Colorado Springs, Colo. While there, she met Joe Gornik, who shared a mutual love and desire to serve Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. Joe and Glenis were married on Aug. 19, 1972, in Talmage.
Glenis made an impact in student’s lives teaching teen parent and independent study students at Elliot High School (Modesto, CA) from 1972-2018.
She was an active member of CrossPoint Community Church and enjoyed serving the church in various roles.
She loved to sew and earned multiple awards for her work. Glenis was an avid sports fan and loved to cheer on her children and grandchildren at their sporting events.
Glenis was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Marlene, and brother, Mervin. She is survived by her husband, Joe; four children, Deanna, Jon, Ross and Susan; and four grandchildren.
A service celebrating Glenis’s life will be held on Friday, Oct. 5, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at CrossPoint Community Church in Modesto.
